Motorola has quietly expanded its midrange portfolio with the formal introduction of the Moto G87, a device that had surfaced in earlier leaks but is now confirmed with a clear focus on camera performance and durability.

At the center of the phone’s positioning is its main camera, a 200-megapixel sensor equipped with optical image stabilization. Motorola is presenting it as the most capable primary camera yet in its G-series range, with support for what it describes as 2x lossless zoom. Alongside it sits an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, while the front houses a 32-megapixel camera for selfies.
The hardware choices extend beyond imaging. The Moto G87 runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 6400 chipset, paired with configurations offering up to 12GB of RAM. The display measures 6.78 inches and uses what the company calls an “Extreme AMOLED” panel, featuring a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Motorola also claims peak brightness reaching 5,000 nits, with Gorilla Glass 7i added for protection.
Durability appears to be a defining theme. The device carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for resistance against dust and water, along with MIL-STD-810H certification. According to the company, this includes the ability to withstand drops from heights of up to 1.2 meters, placing it among the more rugged options in its segment.
Battery capacity stands at 5,200mAh, supported by 30W wired charging. The phone ships with Android 16, keeping it aligned with the latest version of Google’s operating system at launch. Motorola has also highlighted improvements in audio, stating that the dual speaker system delivers significantly stronger output compared to its predecessor, though no detailed measurements were provided.
The Moto G87 is expected to reach markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America in the coming weeks. Pricing details have not yet been disclosed. In some regions, the same device may be marketed under a different name, with indications pointing to “Moto G Max” branding.
