Earlier this month, Google rolled out the first beta build of Android 17 to its Pixel devices. Now Motorola is following with a beta program of its own, extending early access software to a limited set of users across several regions.

The move stands out for a company that, in recent years, has not been known for leading the charge on major Android updates. Whether this signals a broader shift in pace for the stable Android 17 rollout remains to be seen. For now, the focus is on testing.
In the United States, owners of the Motorola Edge (2025) are eligible to enroll in the beta program. In Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the program is open to users of the Moto G57 as well as the G57 Power. Meanwhile, in India, the G57 Power is also included in the testing phase.
The company has provided separate sign-up pathways for each eligible device and region, allowing users to register their interest directly. As with any early-stage beta software, this build is not positioned as a polished release. Early betas typically serve to surface bugs, performance issues, and compatibility problems before a wider rollout.
Users considering participation are advised to approach with caution. Beta versions can include unfinished features, stability concerns, and unexpected disruptions. Installing such software on a primary device used for work or essential communication carries obvious risks.
For Motorola, this program represents an opportunity to gather real-world feedback and refine Android 17 ahead of its public release. For users, it offers a first look at the next iteration of Android â with the understanding that early access often comes with trade-offs.

How quickly the company moves from beta testing to a stable release will be closely watched, especially given its recent track record on major updates. For now, the program marks an early step in that process, limited in scope but notable in timing.
