There is a certain familiarity about the test vehicle that has been making quiet appearances on Indian roads in recent months. Even under heavy camouflage, its proportions and stance point clearly towards Hyundai, a brand that has steadily widened its SUV footprint in the country.

The development comes at a time when the Tata Nexon continues to hold its ground as the country’s best-selling car, a position earned through consistent demand in both petrol and electric forms. That context gives added weight to Hyundai’s latest move, even if the company itself has not formally commented.
The test mule, first seen a few months ago and now spotted again, carries a boxy silhouette that stands apart from some of the smoother designs in Hyundai’s current lineup. The alloy wheels and rear lighting elements follow a design language that is already familiar to Indian buyers, making it relatively easy to place despite the disguise.
What was less clear earlier was the vehicle’s powertrain. Initial sightings left room for both internal combustion and electric possibilities. That uncertainty appears to have narrowed. The latest round of spy shots reportedly shows the vehicle at a charging station, suggesting that Hyundai is preparing another electric offering for the Indian market.
If that proves accurate, this would become the brand’s second electric SUV in India after the Hyundai Creta Electric. The company already sells models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, alongside its established range that includes the Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Exter and Hyundai Alcazar.
The design direction seen in the test vehicle leans towards a more upright, functional form, though the camouflage prevents a full reading of its final styling. Even so, there are hints of a more playful approach in the detailing, something Hyundai has been experimenting with across segments.
For now, the vehicle remains unnamed and officially unannounced. What is visible, however, is a continuation of Hyundai’s interest in electrification within the compact SUV space, an area that has become increasingly competitive.

Whether this upcoming model directly challenges the Nexon’s dominance is something that will only become clearer with time. For now, it remains a test vehicle on public roads, offering small but telling glimpses of where the segment may be headed next.
