Spotify is expanding the way listeners use lyrics in its app, with three upgrades that reshape what the feature can do during everyday listening. The company says the updates are rolling out now, and they focus on translation, offline access, and a redesigned way of previewing lyrics while a song plays.
The most broadly available change is lyric translation. Spotify says translations are now available worldwide for both Free and Premium users, expanding beyond the 25 markets where the feature previously existed. When a track has a translation available, listeners can tap a translate icon on the lyrics card to display the translated text underneath the original lines.
Spotify says translations will appear based on the deviceâs language, and users can switch back to the original lyrics at any time. Itâs the kind of update that matters most when a song crosses languages, or when listeners want to follow meaning instead of just melody.
The second update is offline lyrics, aimed at people who download music for travel, commuting, or spotty connections. Spotify says that when a user downloads a song, the lyrics will automatically be saved too. Offline lyrics are rolling out around the world for Premium users.
It also puts Spotify in clearer competition with Apple Music on this particular convenience feature. Apple Music added offline lyrics support in iOS 26.2 last December, and Spotifyâs announcement frames its own move as part of a broader effort to improve the core listening experience.
The third change is a new lyric previews design that brings short lyric snippets directly into the Now Playing screen. Instead of jumping into a separate lyrics view, the words can now appear directly beneath the album artwork or a short Canvas clip while the track runs.
Spotify says early testing suggests the updated layout makes it easier to engage with lyrics and may help listeners return to songs they discovered. Sharing lines to social platforms is still available from the Now Playing view, according to the company.
For anyone who prefers a cleaner screen, Spotify notes the lyric previews can be turned off by opening the three-dot menu and selecting âLyrics Off.â Taken together, the updates make Spotifyâs lyrics feature feel less like an add-on and more like a built-in part of listening, whether youâre online, offline, or trying to follow along in another language.
