Anamorphic lenses have long been associated with a particular kind of cinematic texture, the sort of widescreen rendering that immediately signals “filmmaking” rather than plain video. Blazar is now trying to bring that look to a much faster, more practical style of shooting with the launch of its new Talon 1.5x AF anamorphic lens series.
The company says the Talon line is the world’s first autofocus anamorphic system built around a 1.5x squeeze factor. For working creators, the autofocus claim is the headline, because anamorphic setups have often meant slower operation, especially for single-operator shoots where focus pulls can become the bottleneck.
At launch, Blazar is planning three focal lengths: 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm. The system will be available in Sony E-mount first, which is likely to matter to the large number of video shooters already invested in that ecosystem and looking for lenses that can move smoothly between gimbal work, handheld rigs, or other lightweight configurations.
Blazar is positioning the Talon series as a full-frame, video-first design, and it is leaning hard into portability. Each lens is listed at under 690g, a detail that signals the company isn’t just chasing image character, but also acknowledging how much modern production is built around compact camera builds and mobility.
Autofocus is described as “fast,” with added emphasis on real-time tracking to keep focus locked during dynamic scenes. The language is clearly aimed at solo shooters who don’t have a dedicated focus puller and need the lens to keep up when subjects move quickly or when camera movement is part of the shot.

On the image side, Blazar says the lenses can produce a 1.8x anamorphic image from a 1.5x squeeze, and it highlights the familiar characteristics many shooters want from anamorphic glass, including cinematic depth, compression, and oval bokeh.
One of the first detailed product callouts is the Talon 50mm T2.1 1.5x Anamorphic AF Lens in Sony E-mount. The provided specs list a T2.1 to T16 aperture range, an 80mm front outside diameter, a 2.1-foot minimum focus distance, a 77mm filter thread, and selectable manual and autofocus operation.
Pricing has not been announced yet, but the introduction alone is notable. If the Talon lenses perform as described, they point toward a version of anamorphic shooting that fits the pace of today’s creator workflows without demanding a slower, more specialized setup.
