Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, has introduced the all-new 2027 YZ250F, bringing extensive mechanical and chassis revisions to its flagship 250cc motocross machine as the company looks to build on a model that has remained a benchmark in the class.

The announcement marks one of the most significant updates to the YZ250F in recent years. Yamaha said the motorcycle receives a completely redesigned engine and substantial chassis changes aimed at improving both performance and handling characteristics across a wide range of riding conditions.
According to the company, the YZ250F has established itself as a leading contender in the 250cc motocross segment, earning multiple industry accolades and playing a central role in recent Supercross success. Yamaha noted that current West and East Supercross champions Haiden Deegan and Cole Davies secured a sweep of the 250cc titles this season, while the YZ250F won 16 of 17 Main Events during the championship campaign.
“The 2027 YZ250F receives a completely redesigned engine and extensive chassis changes to provide the highest level of performance for winning races,” said Derek Brooks, Yamaha Motorsports Motorcycle Product Line Manager. He added that the combination of increased power and revised handling characteristics has elevated the motorcycle’s overall performance for both recreational riders and competitive racers.

At the heart of the update is a newly developed engine designed to deliver stronger performance throughout the rev range. Yamaha said the powerplant offers a more linear response while producing increased power and torque. The rev limit has also been raised by 700 rpm compared with the previous model.
The engine incorporates a rocker arm with finger follower system derived from Yamaha’s YZF-R1 supersport motorcycle, alongside intake revisions intended to improve airflow and support higher engine speeds. Despite the increase in performance, Yamaha said changes to the air cleaner box and exhaust system allow the motorcycle to remain compliant with FIM and AMA noise regulations while producing a more refined exhaust note.
Power delivery has also been revised through the introduction of an all-new hydraulic clutch system. Replacing the previous coil spring arrangement, the new design uses a disc spring and combines the primary gear and clutch basket into a single steel unit. Yamaha said the result is a lighter and more compact assembly that provides smoother engagement, reduced lever effort and eliminates the need for on-track clutch adjustments.
The chassis receives equally significant attention. The 2027 YZ250F adopts the same aluminum bilateral beam frame architecture used on the YZ450F. Yamaha said the revised structure, including a thinner front downtube and new engine brackets, is intended to improve stability, cornering performance and front-end feedback while enhancing rider comfort and straight-line control.
Those changes are supported by a new KYB rear shock and revised fork settings developed specifically for the YZ250F. The updated suspension package is designed to improve damping performance while reducing bump reaction and pitching movement. Yamaha has also added a hand-operated low-speed compression adjuster to simplify trackside tuning.
Further revisions extend to the rear braking system. Engineers reduced the size of the rear brake caliper piston, master cylinder piston and brake disc, while also introducing changes to brake line materials and rotor bolts to lower unsprung weight. Yamaha said the system maintains strong and progressive braking performance despite the reduction in size.
Visually, the motorcycle adopts styling cues shared with the YZ450F. Updates include a slimmer front number plate, redesigned side covers, a sharper rear fender and new graphics. A revised honeycomb-pattern seat cover has also been added to improve rider movement under varying track conditions.
The 2027 YZ250F retains compatibility with Yamaha’s Power Tuner app, which continues to offer engine tuning functionality. New for this model is an ECU lock feature that allows owners to prevent unauthorized engine start-up through a password-protected system accessed via the app.
