Alphabet reported Q2 2026 earnings after market close on July 22, with revenue of $116.91 billion, up 21.2% year-over-year. Net profit hit $35.34 billion, up 25.3%, while earnings per share reached $2.86, a 23.8% increase.

The internet giant delivered record results despite aggressive spending on AI infrastructure. Wall Street focused primarily on Google Cloud, which posted $22.8 billion in revenue—a 67% jump that fueled investor confidence even as AI capital expenditure continues climbing.

Google Cloud Powers Growth

Google’s cloud business became the primary growth engine this quarter. Enterprise demand for AI services outpaced expectations, with customers moving workloads to Google’s infrastructure at an accelerating pace. The division’s 67% growth rate exceeded analyst estimates and represented the strongest performance in Alphabet’s portfolio.

Alphabet raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to a range of $180 billion to $190 billion, signaling confidence in long-term AI opportunity despite short-term margin pressure. The company stressed that this spending supports both near-term product improvements and future competitive positioning.

AI Monetization Challenge

Investors scrutinized whether Alphabet can convert its massive AI spending into sustainable revenue growth. The company’s AI agent initiatives and Gemini model enhancements showed progress during the quarter, though profitability timelines remain uncertain.

Core search advertising revenue grew 11.4% to $59.5 billion, slightly below prior trends, reflecting gradual market maturation. YouTube advertising revenue climbed 13.2% to $8.7 billion, stabilizing after earlier softness.

Analyst Outlook

Wall Street consensus calls for continued momentum in Google Cloud growth through 2026. Analysts expect the company to find efficiency gains in its AI research operations, though peak spending may not occur until 2027.

Alphabet’s stock rebounded above $350 following the earnings release, reflecting renewed investor appetite for high-growth tech exposure.

The market’s patience with Alphabet’s AI spending rests on cloud monetization staying on track. If enterprise demand cools, investor sentiment could shift quickly.
