Apple unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 on June 8, with launch coming this September across compatible iPhones. The update centers on a complete Siri redesign powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. This isn’t a minor refresh. This is a rethinking of how Siri understands you and responds.

The new Siri combines three capabilities that didn’t work together before. Personal context awareness means Siri remembers your conversations and can reference them without you repeating details. Onscreen recognition lets Siri see what you’re looking at right now. Web knowledge means Siri can answer current events questions, not just pull from stored data.
What makes this different is how they integrate. You’re looking at a photo in your Messages app. You ask Siri “who is this” without naming the person or app. Siri sees the photo on your screen and recognizes the person from your contacts. You’re in a conversation about dinner plans from yesterday. You ask Siri “where are we going” and Siri remembers that conversation without you repeating it. The AI connects to the web, so when you ask about today’s weather, it doesn’t give you yesterday’s forecast.
Cross-device chat history means your iPhone conversation picks up on your Mac without restart. Start asking Siri something on your phone. Finish the thought on your Mac. Siri keeps the thread intact.
iOS 27 redesigns how you split bills. A new feature in Messages and Wallet lets you divide expenses with friends using Apple Cash. Specify who paid what. Siri mode in the Camera app handles the splitting math. No more texting back and forth about who owes whom.
Location sharing got granular controls. Instead of “share my location forever,” you set custom durations. Four days and six hours. July 3rd at 5 PM. Whatever precision you need. The Find My app remembers your preference and applies it next time.
Photos editing gained Spatial Reframing, which uses AI to intelligently recompose photos. The Clean Up tool got stronger at removing unwanted objects. Both use on-device processing so your images stay private on your device.
Child Safety expanded beyond nudity detection. Apple added detection for gore and violence in shared images. Communication Safety helps protect children from harmful content in Messages and FaceTime. The balance Apple strikes between protection and privacy happens on-device, not on servers.
Flyover in Apple Maps now uses AI to show aerial imagery in stunning resolution for select cities. You can explore neighborhoods and landmarks before visiting them.
iOS 27 arrives in September. The interface feels familiar but acts more intelligent. Siri stops being frustrating and becomes actually helpful.
