Billie Eilish concert film hits Paramount+ after James Cameron collaboration

“Billie Eilish — Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour (Live)” premiered Thursday exclusively on Paramount+, bringing the singer’s arena tour to streaming just three months after its brief run in theaters.

The concert film is Eilish’s third, co-directed by the singer alongside filmmaker James Cameron, who previously worked with her on visual effects for her “What Was I Made For?” music video. The film was shot across two stops on her world tour, at arenas in Manchester, England, and Phoenix, Arizona.

Cameron’s involvement extended beyond directing. The production used stereoscopic 3D and virtual reality capture technology developed through a partnership between his Lightstorm Vision and Meta Platforms, giving the concert film an immersive presentation not typical of standard tour documentaries.

The set list draws from across Eilish’s catalog, including “bad guy,” “Birds of a Feather,” “Happier Than Ever,” “when the party’s over,” and “What Was I Made For?,” her Academy Award-nominated song from the “Barbie” soundtrack.

Before landing on Paramount+, the film had a limited theatrical release beginning May 8, where it grossed roughly $10 million in the United States and Canada and about $27 million worldwide. That run positioned the movie as a modest theatrical success ahead of its streaming debut, an increasingly common strategy for concert films following the box office performance of Taylor Swift‘s and Beyoncé’s own tour movies in recent years.

Eilish’s tour behind her fourth studio album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” wrapped after more than a year on the road, taking her through arenas across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The album included multiple radio hits and further cemented her standing as one of the most commercially successful and critically respected artists of her generation.

The Paramount+ release makes the concert film available to a far broader audience than its theatrical run reached, and gives the streaming service a high-profile music title as it competes for subscribers against Netflix, Max, and other services investing heavily in live and event-style programming.
