Tamil martial arts drama Blast has emerged as one of the notable theatrical successes of recent weeks, crossing the ₹50 crore mark at the worldwide box office while continuing its run in cinemas.

Starring Arjun Sarja and Preity Mukhundhan, the film was produced by AGS Entertainment and directed by Subash K Raj. According to the figures shared by the production team, Blast has surpassed ₹50 crore globally against a reported production budget of ₹18 crore, marking a strong return at the box office.

The latest milestone comes after what the makers described as a successful second weekend in theatres. Acknowledging the film’s continued performance, producer Archana Kalpathi thanked audiences on social media, writing, “Thank you for a Blockbuster second weekend at the box office #Blast.”

While the film opened to interest among younger moviegoers, AGS Entertainment’s Creative Producer Archana Kalpathi said its broader theatrical appeal has played a significant role in sustaining momentum. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India alongside Assistant Creative Producer Aishwarya Kalpathi, she outlined the audience segments that typically support films of this nature.

According to Archana, college students form a substantial portion of the audience, describing them as among the most curious moviegoers. She also noted that professionals working in the IT sector contribute significantly to theatre attendance, often visiting cinemas after work or as part of social outings.

However, she suggested that a film reaches a different level of commercial success when family audiences and women begin turning up in larger numbers. That shift, she said, often changes the trajectory of a theatrical run and can have a noticeable impact on box office performance.

Directed by Subash K Raj, Blast also features Abhirami in a key role. The film centres on a karate-trained family and the people they seek to keep out of their lives, unfolding across a runtime of approximately 140 minutes.

In its review, The Hollywood Reporter India observed that the film takes time to bring together its various plot threads. The publication noted that the narrative offers unusual support to its antagonists while gradually building toward its major dramatic moments. The review also highlighted the director’s willingness to demand patience from viewers before delivering key payoffs within the story.
