Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 on June 8, and a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman points to one of the more significant interface updates the iPhone software has seen in recent years. The changes, if accurate, suggest Apple is focusing heavily on customization, visual consistency, and a broader expansion of Siri’s role across the system.

At the center of the update is a redesigned Camera app that would allow users to customize the placement and visibility of several controls. According to the report, users will be able to decide which tools appear on screen and where they are positioned inside the app.
The customizable controls are said to include flash settings, exposure adjustments, timer options, night mode, live photos, and image resolution settings. The move would mark a noticeable shift from Apple’s traditionally fixed camera interface, which has remained largely unchanged in structure for years despite adding new features.
The Camera app is also expected to gain a new Siri-powered mode alongside the standard photo and video options. The feature would reportedly use Siri’s Visual Intelligence capabilities to identify objects through the camera or translate text in real time while pointing the device at signs, documents, or other written material.
Beyond the camera, the report describes broader interface refinements across iOS 27. Apple is said to be preparing “noticeable design changes” for Siri, system-wide search, and several first-party apps including Safari, Image Playground, and Weather. New animations and redesigned tab bars are also reportedly part of the update as Apple continues refining what Gurman described as the company’s “Liquid Glass” design language.
Siri appears to be receiving the most substantial overhaul. According to the report, Apple plans to rebuild the assistant into a more capable chatbot experience powered by Google’s Gemini models. Siri would reportedly become accessible through the Dynamic Island interface, while users could also switch between Apple’s own AI models and third-party systems such as ChatGPT.
The assistant may also receive its own standalone app for the first time, a change that would expand Siri beyond its current role as a built-in system feature.
Several Apple apps are expected to receive smaller but still visible interface adjustments. Safari’s start page could gain four tabs positioned across the top of the screen, organizing favorites, bookmarks, reading lists, and browsing history into separate sections. The Weather app is reportedly getting a new Conditions panel on a city’s main page, while Image Playground is said to have undergone a complete redesign.
Apple has not publicly confirmed any of the reported features ahead of its June announcement. As with all pre-release software details, plans could still change before the company formally introduces the update.
