Fresh signals from Appleâs supply chain suggest the company has yet to settle on a final design direction for its next-generation flagship, the iPhone 18 Pro, particularly around the future of its signature Dynamic Island feature.

According to information shared by the Weibo-based leaker known as Digital Chat Station, Apple is currently weighing two distinct display approaches. One would carry forward the existing screen design expected on the iPhone 17 Pro, effectively leaving the Dynamic Island unchanged. The other points to a more ambitious shift, reducing the size of the interface element by relocating key Face ID components beneath the display.
The second option, described as a âMini Dynamic Island,â would depend on moving the receiver and transmitter elements of the Face ID system under the screen. That adjustment, if adopted, would mark a notable step in Appleâs longer-term effort to minimize visible front-facing hardware without removing the feature altogether.
The latest account reflects a subtle change in tone from the same source. Earlier in the year, the leaker had indicated that Apple was more likely to reuse its previous design, suggesting limited visual changes. The current update instead frames the decision as still open, with internal testing reportedly ongoing.
This position stands somewhat apart from other reports that have circulated in recent months. Analysts and industry watchers, including Bloombergâs Mark Gurman and display expert Ross Young, have pointed toward a smaller Dynamic Island becoming a likely outcome, with estimates suggesting a reduction of roughly one-third compared to the current design.
Beyond the front display, the report touches briefly on the rear of the device. The rectangular camera plateau introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to remain in place. Any changes there appear to be more subtle, involving refinements to materials and finishing details, possibly aimed at achieving a more consistent look between the metal frame and the glass section used for wireless charging.
Apple has not commented on these claims, and the companyâs internal decision-making process typically remains fluid until closer to production. For now, the competing design paths suggest a product still in refinement rather than final form.

The Apple Inc. is widely expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro lineup later this year, alongside what is described as its first foldable iPhone. What ultimately reaches consumers may depend on how far the company is willing to push changes to one of its most recognizable interface elements.
