iPhone 18 Pro Leaks Reveal Variable Aperture Camera Upgrade

By Soniya ChowdhuryAugust 9, 20262 Mins Read

Apple‘s iPhone 18 Pro is taking shape in leak after leak months before any official word from the company, with the latest reports pointing to a September unveiling and a notable jump in price.

iPhone 18 Pro leaks

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup on September 9, with sales starting around September 18. Nothing from Apple confirms that timeline yet, but Gurman’s supply chain sourcing has a strong track record on iPhone launch dates.
The most talked-about leak centers on the camera. Multiple reports describe a variable-aperture main lens, a first for any iPhone, that would let the lens opening adjust to lighting conditions the way a professional camera does. Samsung and some Chinese phone makers have offered similar technology before Apple.
Display leaks suggest the Pro model keeps a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen with 120Hz ProMotion, while the Pro Max grows to 6.9 inches, the largest screen Apple has ever put on an iPhone. Both phones are rumored to be slightly thicker and heavier than last year’s models, with the Pro Max approaching 240 grams.
Pricing leaks are less settled. Some reports point to a $100 increase across the Pro lineup, while others describe a steeper jump of up to $300 for the top Pro Max configuration, which would push its price close to $1,399. None of these figures come from Apple, and leaked pricing has been wrong before.
Other rumored specs include a 4288 mAh battery, 12GB of RAM and Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, alongside 256GB as the new base storage tier for Pro models.
Apple has stayed silent, as it always does before a launch event. Until the company sends out invitations for a September gathering, everything about the iPhone 18 Pro remains rumor, however consistent the leaks have become across multiple outlets.
Rival phone makers are not waiting around either. Samsung and Google have both leaned harder into camera hardware over the past year, and Apple’s variable-aperture push looks like a direct answer to that pressure rather than an isolated upgrade.
