Kristen Stewart Reflects on Past Relationship With Robert Pattinson as She Looks Ahead to Marriage

Kristen Stewart has offered a candid reflection on her past relationship with Robert Pattinson, describing their time together during the height of the “Twilight” years as shaped by youth and inexperience.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Stewart spoke openly about the connection that first developed when the two actors were cast opposite each other in the film adaptation of Twilight. She recalled an immediate sense of chemistry during Pattinson’s audition for the role of Edward Cullen opposite her Bella Swan.

“It was so clear who worked,” she said, describing her early impression. The moment, she suggested, carried a kind of instinctive certainty that shaped both their performances and their off-screen relationship.

Stewart went on to describe what drew her to Pattinson at the time, pointing to a mix of intellectual curiosity and a relaxed, almost indifferent creative approach. That balance, she indicated, resonated with her own instincts as a young actor navigating sudden global attention.

Reflecting on the relationship itself, which lasted from 2009 to 2013, Stewart characterised that period with a degree of hindsight. “We were young and stupid,” she said, adding that the emotional intensity they brought to their roles may have been inseparable from their real-life connection. She suggested that such a dynamic, while imperfect, contributed to what audiences saw on screen.

Since that chapter, Stewart’s personal life has taken a different course. She later dated visual effects producer Alicia Cargile and model Stella Maxwell before entering a relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer.

The couple became engaged after two years together. Speaking earlier this month on SiriusXM host Howard Stern’s show, Stewart confirmed plans to marry, describing the proposal as thoughtful and aligned with what she had hoped for.

Her comments suggest a sense of certainty about the relationship, contrasting with the unpredictability she once associated with her younger years. She had previously remarked that she felt ready for marriage relatively early into dating Meyer, noting her tendency toward impulsiveness but also a belief that meaningful decisions can come quickly.

Meanwhile, Pattinson has been in a long-term relationship with model Suki Waterhouse since 2018.
