Maruti’s new Baleno brings Level 2 ADAS to a premium hatchback

By Saleh MohammadSeptember 6, 20262 Mins Read

Maruti Suzuki is using driver-assistance technology to give its new Baleno a stronger premium-hatchback pitch in India. Autocar Professional reports that the model starts at Rs 6.09 lakh and is being positioned with Level 2 ADAS, a first for the premium hatchback segment according to the report.

Level 2 assistance combines systems that can help with steering, acceleration and braking under defined conditions. It does not make the car autonomous. The driver remains responsible for watching the road, keeping hands ready and taking control whenever the system asks.

Maruti’s official safety page describes its Level 2 ADAS as a sensor-based suite intended to support awareness, control and confidence. The company also explains related safety features such as electronic stability control, braking support and a 360-degree camera. Equipment can vary by trim, so buyers should check the final specification of the Baleno version they want.

The ADAS move gives Maruti a clear talking point in a segment where buyers often compare design, cabin technology, mileage and price. Adding assistance features may help the Baleno stand apart from other hatchbacks, but the usefulness of the system will depend on road markings, traffic conditions, weather and calibration.

India’s roads can present a difficult test for camera and radar-based assistance. Motorcycles, unmarked lanes, sudden stops and mixed traffic can challenge any system. A driver-assistance package should therefore be treated as an extra layer of support rather than a reason to reduce attention.

Autocar Professional says Maruti is targeting a run rate of about 16,500 Baleno units a month. The report places the car within the company’s wider Nexa strategy and says Maruti plans to offer 17 models through the premium channel. Those targets describe the business plan, not guaranteed sales.

The new technology may also change how buyers judge value. A higher trim with ADAS could cost more than a basic version, while insurance, repair and sensor calibration may add ownership questions. Customers should ask about warranty coverage, replacement costs and how the assistance features behave when road conditions are poor.

Maruti’s safety information supports the general ADAS explanation. Autocar Professional provides the current Baleno price, positioning and sales-target context. Final equipment, availability and local on-road prices should be confirmed with Maruti Suzuki or an authorized Nexa dealer before a purchase decision.
