Nothing OS 5.0 is drawing attention for features that move some AI and sharing tasks onto the phone itself. Nothing’s official page describes an Essential Apps builder that can create a small tool from a natural-language description, plus a Quick Share option that can generate a QR code for iPhone users and other devices to download through a secure web link.

The Essential Apps feature is not being presented as a finished replacement for the app store. Nothing says the builder is in early beta and that access is rolling out gradually, with a waitlist for users who do not yet have access. That limitation should be included in any report because an OS feature page does not mean every eligible phone can use it immediately.

The company also highlights Smart Collections in Essential Space. The tool can group related captures, while Essential Voice provides real-time text and cleaner formatting for notes and summaries. Nothing says compatible AI tools can access selected Essential Space information through MCP support, with that support planned for around October. The timing is separate from the main OS installation.

Android Central described the release as a major update based on Android 17 and noted the on-device app-building feature. It also reported a refreshed visual system, new widgets, a dedicated Glyph app and changes to the notification and Quick Settings panels. These are software changes that may feel different across supported models because Nothing has warned that feature availability can vary during the staged rollout.

The iPhone connection is limited but useful. Nothing’s page says Android users can share with an iPhone by generating a QR code that opens a secure web link. It does not say that iPhones become part of the same Android peer-to-peer system, and readers should not describe the option as Apple’s AirDrop being built into Nothing OS.

Privacy controls are another part of the Android 17 base. Nothing lists clearer privacy indicators and permission controls for camera, microphone and location access. The official page also describes separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels, while warning that the open beta may affect device stability, battery life and performance.

The new features are therefore best understood as a staged software package rather than a single finished AI product. Nothing OS 5.0 offers phone-based creation, selected cross-platform sharing and new controls, but beta access and rollout timing remain limited. Owners should check their model and the official release page before expecting every feature on day one.
