Nothing OS 5 beta brings Android 17 features to supported phones

By Hasnat JubaerSeptember 13, 20262 Mins Read

Nothing has opened the beta track for Nothing OS 5, giving owners of selected phones an early look at the company’s Android 17 software. The release is not a finished public update. Nothing warns that beta software can contain bugs and may affect stability, battery life or performance.

Nothing OS 5 beta

The company’s official Nothing OS page says the Phone (3) was the first model listed for the open beta. Nothing’s published timetable also points to a wider stable release in the middle of October. Other models have their own testing or release windows, so owners should check the company’s device list instead of assuming that every Nothing phone is eligible.

Android Authority reported that the software is built on Android 17 and brings a visual refresh alongside changes to Nothing’s Essential AI tools. Android Central’s hands-on report described redesigned home and lock screens, new widgets, wallpaper-based color options and additional clock styles. Those details give users a clearer idea of what the beta is testing, but they do not turn beta behavior into a promise about the final build.

Nothing also says some older devices will not receive the full major-update path. That makes the model list important for anyone deciding whether to enroll. A phone that is outside the beta program may still receive security support or smaller fixes, but those are different from the Nothing OS 5 upgrade itself.

Users who install the beta should back up important data first and expect changes during testing. A beta can expose unfinished settings, app problems or battery behavior that will not appear in the final release. Nothing’s own warning is the best guide: the software is intended for testing, not for people who need a completely stable phone every day.

The update also shows how Android 17 is beginning to move beyond Google’s own devices. Nothing is adding its own design language and tools on top of the Android base, while independent testing gives users an early view of the differences. The final experience will depend on the model and on the fixes released before the stable rollout.

For now, Nothing owners should use the official eligibility page, read the beta terms and keep a recovery plan ready. The safe choice for a primary phone remains the stable software channel until the company finishes testing.
