After a strong opening weekend driven by the Valentine’s Day holiday, O Romeo has begun to slow at the domestic box office. The romantic drama, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, added an estimated Rs 5 crore on Tuesday, taking its five-day India total to Rs 39.9 crore.

The film, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, released on February 13 and opened to Rs 8.5 crore on Friday. It witnessed a significant 48 percent jump on Saturday, collecting Rs 12.65 crore as holiday footfall lifted numbers across major centres.
Sunday, however, did not hold at the same level. Collections dipped by 28 percent to Rs 9 crore, signalling that the initial festive advantage may have been front-loaded.
The slide continued into the working week. Monday brought in Rs 4.75 crore, followed by Tuesday’s reported Rs 5 crore. Trade observers note that while the drop is not unusual after a holiday weekend, sustaining momentum through weekdays will be crucial in the days ahead.
Occupancy figures reflect this uneven pace. Morning shows recorded 8.65 percent occupancy, rising to 14.31 percent in the afternoon and 15.23 percent in the evening. Night shows performed comparatively better at 26.50 percent, suggesting stronger late-evening turnout in urban markets.
On the international front, the film is faring better. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, O Romeo’s worldwide total stood at Rs 53.3 crore as of Monday, buoyed by overseas markets.
The film is not facing competition from a major star-led release, but it has had to share screens with Tu Yaa Main, featuring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor. That film has collected Rs 4 crore in five days, modest but enough to divide audience attention in certain territories.
Despite the current slowdown, O Romeo has already crossed the lifetime domestic collections of several earlier Shahid Kapoor titles, including Badmaash Company, Phata Poster Nikla Hero and his previous release Deva.
It has also reportedly overtaken Happy Patel, produced by Aamir Khan and starring director-actor Vir Das, which earned Rs 5.55 crore in its first week.
For Kapoor and Bhardwaj, this marks another chapter in a long-standing collaboration. Their earlier films — Kaminey, Rangoon and Haider — set varying benchmarks at the box office. O Romeo has already edged past Rangoon’s lifetime total of Rs 39.80 crore, though it remains behind the worldwide figures of Kaminey and Haider.
