For years, smartphone users have faced a simple trade-off when taking selfies. The best cameras on most phones have been mounted on the rear, while the front-facing camera has remained the more convenient option for framing a shot. Oppo is now attempting to address that long-standing limitation with a new accessory designed to put the rear camera’s view directly in front of the user.

The Oppo Bubble, introduced in China on May 25, 2026, is a circular magnetic display that attaches to the back of compatible smartphones and mirrors the live feed from the rear camera. The accessory allows users to see framing and composition in real time while using the phone’s primary camera system, eliminating the need to rely on a lower-specification front camera for self-portraits and video capture.

The device was launched alongside select models in Oppo’s Reno 16 series and connects wirelessly to supported phones. According to the company, the Bubble can maintain a live camera preview from as far as 10 meters away, extending its usefulness beyond traditional selfies.

That range allows the accessory to function as a remote shooting monitor. Users can position a phone on a tripod, move several meters away, and still view the camera feed while triggering the shutter remotely. The setup offers an alternative to common workarounds such as countdown timers or separate Bluetooth remote controls.

At the center of the Bubble is a circular AMOLED touchscreen. The display is designed to provide a clear camera preview, while its round form gives the accessory a distinct appearance compared with conventional rectangular screens. When not being used for photography, the display can show custom wallpapers, live photos, videos, and animated themes.

Oppo has also included support for displaying media and practical items such as digital boarding passes. This gives the accessory a secondary role beyond photography, allowing it to function as a small external display attached to the back of a phone.

The Bubble is powered by a 550mAh battery and attaches magnetically to supported devices. While the concept expands the functionality of a phone’s rear camera system, its availability remains limited. The live camera preview feature currently works only with select devices from the Reno 16 lineup.

Oppo has also previewed a pendant version of the Bubble, indicating that the company may be exploring additional form factors for the product. However, it has not confirmed whether the pendant variant will support the same camera-monitoring capabilities as the phone-mounted model.

For now, the Bubble remains exclusive to the Chinese market, and Oppo has not announced plans for an international release. The accessory arrives as an unusual addition to the smartphone ecosystem, focusing on a practical challenge that users have adapted to for years rather than introducing an entirely new category of device.

Whether its appeal remains confined to a small group of compatible phones or expands through future iterations, the Bubble highlights a different approach to smartphone photography, one centered on making the rear camera easier to use from either side of the lens.
