Fresh details emerging around the Oppo Find X9 Ultra suggest the company is placing a clear bet on telephoto performance, with early specifications indicating notable gains over its immediate predecessor and direct competition.

Information shared by an Oppo executive and a widely followed industry leaker offers a closer look at the deviceâs Hasselblad-tuned camera system. The emphasis, at least for now, appears to be on improving light capture and zoom capability rather than reshaping the broader camera layout.
At the center of that effort is a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches, paired with an f/2.2 aperture. According to Oppo, this configuration delivers a significant jump in light sensitivity, measured at 136 percent higher than the 3x telephoto used in the previous Find X8 Ultra. The company also claims that even at 6x zoom, the system captures 23 percent more light than the dedicated 6x module on that earlier device.
That focus on light intake suggests Oppo is trying to address one of the more persistent weaknesses in smartphone zoom photography, where image quality often drops sharply in less favorable lighting. The 70 mm equivalent focal length for the 3x zoom also marks a slight shift from rivals such as the Vivo X300 Ultra, which uses an 85 mm equivalent.
Beyond the 3x system, Oppo is positioning the Find X9 Ultra as a contender in long-range zoom as well, with integrated 10x optical capabilities. This contrasts with Vivoâs approach, which reportedly relies on an external optical extender to reach longer focal lengths.
The main camera is expected to use the same Sony LYT-901 200-megapixel sensor seen in competing devices, though Oppo appears to be leaning on optics rather than sensor size alone. A reported f/1.5 aperture on the 23 mm lens would allow more light to reach the sensor compared to narrower apertures used elsewhere, even as the sensor itself is slightly smaller than the one found in the Find X8 Ultra.
Details around the ultra-wide camera are more limited, though both sources point to a brighter 14 mm lens. Even so, indications are that Vivo may retain an advantage in that segment due to its use of a larger sensor.

Taken together, the early specifications outline a device that is not trying to lead across every category but is instead focusing heavily on telephoto performance and low-light capability. With competing flagships approaching the market at roughly the same time, the differences in camera philosophy are becoming more defined, leaving the final judgment to real-world use once the devices are fully available.
