Redmi Note 17 5G Launches in India With 8,000mAh Battery

By Sadia Afrin JoyaAugust 10, 20262 Mins Read

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 17 5G in India on August 6, with sales set to begin August 12. The phone starts at Rs 27,999.

The headline feature is battery life. The Redmi Note 17 5G packs an 8,000mAh silicon-carbon battery paired with 45W turbo charging, a sharp jump from the batteries typically found in this price bracket.

The display is a 6.99-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1080×2396 resolution and peak brightness of 1,800 nits. Xiaomi paired it with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, a mid-range processor built for everyday tasks rather than heavy gaming.

On the back, the phone carries a 50MP AI-assisted main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. The software runs HyperOS 3, Xiaomi’s custom interface layered on top of Android 16.

The Redmi Note 17 5G slots into Xiaomi’s crowded Note lineup, which has long competed on battery size and display quality rather than raw processing power. The silicon-carbon battery chemistry lets Xiaomi pack more capacity into a similar physical footprint compared with older lithium-ion cells.

Xiaomi has not detailed international availability beyond India. The company typically brings Redmi Note models to other Asian and European markets within a few months of an Indian launch, though pricing and specs sometimes shift by region.

With sales opening August 12, the Redmi Note 17 5G will compete directly against budget and mid-range phones from Samsung, Realme and Vivo, all fighting over the same price band in India’s smartphone market.

The launch also lands as component costs, particularly for RAM and storage, are pushing up prices across the budget segment industry-wide, making Xiaomi’s decision to hold the line at Rs 27,999 notable for the category. Xiaomi has yet to say whether the same battery and pricing formula will carry over to a global Redmi Note 17 variant, or whether international buyers will see a different specification mix.
