Rubaiyat Jamil, founder and chief executive officer of ICE Technologies, died on Friday at the age of 46 after collapsing during a cricket match in Hathazari, Chattogram. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday.

According to the statement, Jamil fell ill on the field while playing, bringing an abrupt end to a life that had remained closely tied to both business and sport. He was known among peers not only as an entrepreneur but also as a regular presence in cricket circles.
Jamil was the only son of the late Mahbub Jamil, who had served as chairman of Singer Bangladesh Ltd. Over the years, he built a reputation across several sectors, working on ventures that ranged from technology and food retail to elevators, escalators, and industrial cooling solutions.
Colleagues in the business community described him as part of a younger generation of entrepreneurs who moved across industries with ease, often balancing multiple projects at once. His involvement extended beyond his own companies. He had previously served as a director of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka, and remained active in several professional and social organizations.
These included the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh, the German Chamber of Commerce and Industries, BASIS, and a number of private clubs in Dhaka. Those affiliations reflected both his business interests and his engagement with broader networks shaping the countryâs commercial landscape.
Cricket, however, was a constant thread in his life. During the 1990s, Jamil had been part of Bangladeshâs under-16 and under-19 teams, a background that stayed with him long after he shifted his focus to business. Friends say he continued to play regularly, maintaining a connection to the sport that had marked his early years.
He is survived by his mother, sister, wife, and three daughters. Family members, friends, and colleagues are expected to gather on Sunday for his Namaz-e-Janazah, scheduled after Zuhr prayers at Gulshan Azad Mosque. He will be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.
