Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Arrives July 22 With New Horizontal Foldable Design

By Rithe RoseJuly 20, 20262 Mins Read

Samsung is unveiling three new foldable phones on July 22, 2026, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a new landscape-oriented Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The announcement marks a significant shift in Samsung’s foldable strategy with a fresh design that challenges the traditional book-style fold.

Three Foldables, Two Designs

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra maintains the tall, traditional book-style design. But Samsung is introducing an entirely new model called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide), which folds horizontally. The outer screen uses a wider 4:3 aspect ratio, making it easier to hold and use one-handed while still offering a tablet-like experience when unfolded.

All three phones pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and up to 16GB of RAM. The Z Fold 8 Ultra battery reaches 5,000mAh with claims of 27 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Camera and Display Upgrades

The main camera gets a 200MP sensor (1/1.3 inch) matching the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The ultrawide jumps from 12MP to 50MP. Samsung has reduced crease visibility by roughly 20% compared to the Z Fold 7 through a dual-layer Ultra Thin Glass with laser-drilled metal support plate.

Both phones ship with One UI 9 and Google’s Gemini AI integration from day one, representing the first time Samsung and Google ship a full AI suite together on new foldable hardware.

Pricing and Availability

The Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $1,999 for 256GB, $2,279 for 512GB, and $2,699–$2,799 for 1TB. Base pricing matches the Z Fold 7, but higher capacities cost more due to global DRAM shortages. Pre-orders open July 22, with general availability expected in early August.

Samsung’s new landscape foldable signals a willingness to experiment with form factor, not just iterate on the proven book-style fold.

FYI (keeping you in the loop)

What’s the difference between the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide?

The Z Fold 8 Ultra is the traditional tall, book-style foldable. The Z Fold 8 (Wide) is new—it folds horizontally with a wider 4:3 outer screen for easier one-handed use and a more smartphone-like experience before unfolding.
