Samsung has officially scheduled its Galaxy Unpacked event for Wednesday, July 22 in London, set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. The company is moving its foldable flagship to a premium positioning, aligning the Z Fold 8 Ultra with its Galaxy S Ultra branding for the highest-end segment.

The Z Fold 8 Ultra is Samsung’s most expensive mainstream phone to date, rumored to start at $2,100. Pre-orders open immediately on July 22, with sales likely starting August 7. The new Ultra branding replaces the previous Z Fold 7, signaling Samsung’s confidence in foldable technology as a permanent product line.
Cameras and Processor Specifications
The phone carries a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging. The camera setup includes a 200 MP main sensor, a dedicated telephoto, an ultra-wide, and two selfie cameras. The ultra-wide camera shrinks the crease visibility, a key usability complaint from previous generations.
Under the hood sits the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. This is Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, the same silicon powering the Galaxy S26 Ultra released earlier this year. The processor handles heavy gaming and multitasking without throttling, crucial for a device that runs two displays simultaneously.
Design and Durability Improvements
Samsung narrowed the bezel and improved crease visibility through manufacturing refinements. The hinge mechanism is lighter but stronger, reducing wear on the display over time. These are incremental gains, not revolutionary changes, reflecting the maturity of foldable hardware.
Water resistance matches the flagship: IP68 rating means it survives 6 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes. Gorilla Glass Armor protects the screen, Samsung’s toughest consumer glass to date.
Foldable Market Momentum
The Z Fold 8 Ultra launches into a crowded field. Motorola’s Razr Fold arrived in July at $2,799. Xiaomi’s Mix Fold arrives in September. Google’s Pixel Fold remains competitive at a lower price point. The premium foldable market is fragmenting.
Samsung’s advantage is scale. It produces more foldables than competitors combined. That volume lets Samsung negotiate better component pricing and invest heavily in display quality. The Ultra positioning explicitly targets users who view the Z Fold as a status device, not a gadget.
Pre-orders open July 22. Sales start August 7. Pricing and full specs will be confirmed at the Unpacked event.
