Samsung is preparing to shut down Quick Measure, the augmented-reality app that lets compatible Galaxy phones estimate the size or distance of an object through the camera. The service is scheduled to end on December 31, 2026, according to notices surfaced in the Galaxy Store and reported by Android Central.
The change also includes AR Doodle, another Samsung app built around augmented-reality effects. Samsung has not presented the move as a hardware failure. It is a software-service decision that affects the availability of downloads, updates and future support for the two experiences.
Quick Measure has always depended on the phone’s camera, motion sensors and software calibration. That means the result should be treated as an estimate rather than a replacement for a tape measure or a professional measuring tool. Still, the app can be useful for a quick check when a user needs a rough indication of an object’s size.
Users who already have the app should read the Samsung notice for their device and region. An installed app may continue to open for a time after the service date, but continued access is not the same as ongoing support. A future Android or One UI update could also change compatibility, and Samsung’s notice does not guarantee that every function will remain intact.
The shutdown is a reminder that a phone feature can depend on a store listing and a company service even when the app is already on the device. Before removing Quick Measure, owners who rely on it should look for an alternative measurement tool and save any information they need outside the app.
Privacy is another reason to review old AR apps. Camera-based tools need access to the camera and may request other permissions for overlays or saved results. Users can check the permission list, remove access when it is no longer needed and uninstall the app after confirming that no replacement is required.
Samsung’s decision shows how mobile software changes over time. An AR feature may be impressive when it launches, but keeping it accurate across new devices and operating systems requires continued investment. For Galaxy users, the important date is the end of 2026: check the notice, plan a substitute and avoid treating the app as a permanent part of the phone.
