Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 series goes on sale this week

Samsung’s newest foldable phones officially go on sale this week, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 all becoming available to buy starting August 7. The lineup was unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra leads the range as Samsung’s thinnest foldable to date. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, carries a larger 5,000mAh battery than its predecessor, and adds upgraded cameras, faster charging and expanded Galaxy AI features. Pricing starts at $2,099.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is pitched as the world’s lightest book-style foldable and features a redesigned inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which Samsung says gives the phone a more tablet-like feel when unfolded for multitasking or media. It starts at $1,899.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung’s clamshell foldable, brings what the company is calling its biggest upgrade yet for that model line. Pricing starts at $1,199, with preorders already open ahead of the August 7 on-sale date.

Alongside the phones, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch 9, which adds new health-tracking features and switches to a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite chip for more capable on-device AI processing. The company also unveiled a pair of smart glasses with a built-in camera and speakers but no display, launching initially through a partnership with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The glasses will support both Google’s Gemini assistant and Samsung’s own Bixby.

The lineup marks Samsung’s latest attempt to defend its position in the premium foldable category as rivals in China continue rolling out competing foldable designs at lower price points.

Preorders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra opened ahead of the August 7 on-sale date, alongside the Z Flip 8 and the new Galaxy Watch 9. Samsung has not disclosed first-week sales targets for the lineup, though the company is positioning the redesigned inner display and the thinner Ultra model as its main pitch to buyers of its flagship foldable line this year.
