Sony and Marvel release Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, with Tom Holland returning as Peter Parker. The first trailer launched in March and notched 718.6 million views in 24 hours, breaking the record set by Deadpool & Wolverine. A second trailer followed, showing footage of Peter battling Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and facing consequences of his isolation.
The Cast and Story
Zendaya returns as MJ, Sadie Sink plays Gwen Stacy, and Jacob Batalon is Ned. Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando round out a cast including returning villain portrayals. The screenplay comes from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, both veterans of the Marvel-Sony partnership.
Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, brings a grounded sensibility to the superhero formula. The film explores what it costs Peter to be Peter Parker when nobody remembers Peter Parker at all.
Why This Matters
This is the first Spider-Man film since the multiverse collapsed. Fans have waited two years to see how Holland’s Peter builds a life without his support system. The film marks a pivot point in the MCU’s Spider-Man storyline, moving away from Avengers cameos and toward street-level vulnerability.
