Tesla launched the Model Y L in the United States on July 2, 2026, introducing a longer-wheelbase, six-seat version of its best-selling electric SUV. The Launch Edition starts at $61,990 with an estimated EPA range of 325 miles and 4.4-second 0–60 acceleration.

Bigger, But Still Recognizable

The Model Y L stretches the wheelbase by 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) to 3,040mm and adds 18 centimeters (7 inches) to overall length. The exterior remains instantly identifiable as a Model Y, with subtle design tweaks including an extended roofline for rear headroom.

Inside, Tesla configured the three rows as 2+2+2, using independent captain’s chairs for the middle row instead of a bench. Second-row seats include heating, ventilation, powered armrests, and one-touch fold. The third row gets heated seats with power recline and child-seat anchors.

Launch Series Perks

The Launch Edition comes with 12 months of Full Self-Driving (FSD), 12 months of Supercharging, exterior paint, interior color, and wheel options at no extra charge. Estimated delivery is October to November 2026 for most US locations.

Why the Long Wheelbase?

Tesla discontinued the Model X years ago. The Model Y L fills that gap—it’s Tesla’s answer to buyers wanting three rows and more space without sacrificing efficiency or performance. At $61,990, it costs roughly $8,000 more than market expectations but includes the software and charging perks.

The Model Y L brings Model X territory back without calling it a replacement.
