Tesla will reveal the second-generation Roadster in August 2026 and begin production in time for a 2026 release, according to a report from The Information. The electric supercar will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 mph.

The Roadster has missed multiple launch windows since its original 2013 announcement. Each delay has been accompanied by expanded claims about capability. The August reveal will test whether Tesla can finally deliver on a product that has become mythical in the EV world.
Extreme Performance Targets
A 1.9-second 0-60 would make the Roadster one of the fastest production cars ever built. For context, current performance EVs like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S hit 2.6 seconds. Tesla’s target sits in hypercar territory.
Whether such performance is achievable depends on battery technology, motor efficiency, and the cooling systems required to maintain that acceleration repeatedly. The engineering is plausible but demanding.
Tesla’s Broader EV Portfolio
Tesla’s Q2 2026 deliveries jumped 25%, with 480,126 vehicles sold globally. European demand rebounded sharply. Germany saw 5,111 registrations in May—a 322% year-over-year jump. The Roadster fits into a portfolio now proving EV demand is real, not hype.
The company is also rolling out a new “guaranteed future value” program that locks in resale prices for Model Y and Model 3 buyers. Confidence in EV residual value has become a selling point.
Tesla has promised the Roadster many times. August’s reveal will show whether this time they mean it.
