Toy Story 5 earned an estimated $72 million in its second weekend at the domestic box office, crossing $300 million in cumulative U.S. and Canada earnings after just 10 days in theaters. The Pixar sequel dropped only 55% from its record-breaking $160 million opening — a remarkably slim decline that signals word-of-mouth is still pulling families into theaters.

The film opened to $160 million on June 19-21, the biggest domestic debut of 2026 and the largest in the Toy Story franchise’s history, not adjusted for inflation. It also opened to $152 million internationally, giving it a $312 million global total in its first weekend alone.
How Toy Story 5 held its ground against new competition
This weekend brought DC Studios’ Supergirl and Paramount’s Jackass: Best and Last into theaters. Neither came close to toppling the Pixar sequel. Supergirl opened to an estimated $40 million — below the $47-50 million studios had projected. Jackass: Best and Last debuted to roughly $8 million, the lowest opening in franchise history.
Toy Story 5’s CinemaScore is an A, and its Rotten Tomatoes score holds at 94%, which is helping it run unusually long legs. The film carries a $250 million production budget. With $300 million already in the bank domestically and hundreds of millions more from international markets, it’s heading toward a very profitable theatrical run.
By comparison, Pixar’s previous hit Toy Story 4 opened to $120 million in 2019. Toy Story 5 has already surpassed the domestic lifetime totals of Pixar films like Up ($293 million), The Incredibles ($261 million), and Monsters, Inc. ($256 million).
What the story is about
Toy Story 5 brings back Woody, Buzz, and the gang for a new adventure in which the toys grapple with the reality that today’s children are replacing them with screens and gadgets. Directors Angus MacLane and Valerie LaPointe co-wrote and directed the film alongside a returning ensemble voice cast.
The film arrives 27 years after the original Toy Story and seven years after Toy Story 4, which many assumed would be the franchise’s final chapter. Disney announced this sequel in 2023, and early audience response has been warmer than any entry since the beloved Toy Story 3 in 2010.
The summer box office so far
With Toy Story 5 now at $300 million domestic in under two weeks, 2026 is having a stronger summer than many analysts expected. The film follows several earlier hits including the sci-fi ensemble Disclosure Day and the horror breakout Obsession, which has now earned over $215 million domestically in its seventh weekend.
Industry trackers estimate Toy Story 5 could finish its full run somewhere between $500 million and $600 million domestically, which would place it among Pixar’s all-time top performers.
The film remains the top choice for families this weekend. With July 4 approaching, it’s unlikely to give up the top spot any time soon.
FYI (keeping you in the loop)
Is Toy Story 5 the biggest Pixar movie ever?
Not yet, but it’s tracking there. Finding Dory holds Pixar’s domestic record at $486 million. Toy Story 5 is on a pace that could challenge or surpass that figure by the end of its run.
