Wizards Beyond Waverly Place wrapped its run this week with a four-part finale event, closing out the Disney Channel spinoff after three seasons.

The finale premiered Monday, Aug. 4, on Disney Channel, with all four episodes landing on Disney+ on Tuesday, Aug. 5, according to Disney’s official announcement.

The season picks up with Billie still reeling from losing Alex Russo at the end of season two. The official synopsis says Billie discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father, and as her family bands together to search for Alex, she realizes their combined power may be the only way the Russo family can defeat the evil threatening them.

Selena Gomez, who created the original Wizards of Waverly Place and starred as Alex Russo, returned for multiple episodes of the finale event. Gomez also made her directorial debut with the finale’s opening episode, marking her first time directing for the franchise she has been part of since 2007.

The finale also brought back other familiar faces from the original series, including Jennifer Stone as Harper Finkle and Gregg Sulkin as Mason Greyback, both reprising roles that longtime fans of the Russo family franchise have followed for nearly two decades.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place launched in 2024 as a continuation of the original Disney Channel hit that ran from 2007 to 2012, following a new generation of the Russo family while weaving in appearances from original cast members. The spinoff was renewed for a third season that Disney positioned as the franchise’s final chapter, closing the story with the four-part event this week.

The finale caps a franchise that helped launch Gomez’s career and remains one of Disney Channel’s most enduring properties nearly two decades after its debut.
