Africa Women Cup Nations Starts July 26 in Morocco

By Soniya ChowdhuryJuly 25, 20262 Mins Read

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations kicks off July 26 in Morocco, bringing 16 teams to compete for continental glory and a spot at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The tournament runs through August 16.

Algeria face Senegal in the opening match at 18h00 local time in Rabat, followed by hosts Morocco taking on Kenya at 21h00. These first games set the tone for what promises to be a competitive month of women’s football.

Morocco the Host

Morocco gets the privilege of hosting and the home advantage that comes with it. The North African nation is building its women’s program and will look to make a deep run. The home crowd in Rabat and other venues could prove decisive in tight matches.

Security and organization for a 16-team tournament across multiple cities requires careful planning. Morocco has experience hosting major events and the CAF has confidence in the setup.

Broadcast Reach

BBC Radio will cover matches for Sub-Saharan territories. SNRT, the Moroccan national broadcaster, has full coverage. SABC in South Africa and AZAM Media for parts of East Africa will also show matches. The tournament reaches audiences across the continent and beyond.

Viewership for women’s African football has grown in recent years. More eyes on the pitch means more investment in the sport and better conditions for players.

World Cup Road

The top three teams here qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. For smaller nations, this is the path to the biggest stage in women’s football. Every match carries weight beyond just continental pride.

Teams have trained for months. Squad selections were careful, with coaches looking for pace, finishing ability, and players who thrive under pressure. The next 22 days will showcase Africa’s best women footballers.

Algeria and Morocco open the tournament tomorrow in Rabat. Watch for fast-paced, attacking football early in group play.
