Spider-Man Brand New Day nears $2 billion box office mark

By Sibbir OsmanAugust 14, 20262 Mins Read

Spider-Man Brand New Day has crossed $1.67 billion at the global box office after just 12 days in theaters, putting Sony’s superhero sequel on pace to become one of the fastest films ever to reach $2 billion worldwide.

The film has earned $655 million domestically and $1.01 billion internationally so far, according to Variety’s box office tracking. It became the second fastest movie in history to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide, reaching that milestone in just six days, one day slower than Avengers Endgame’s record set in 2019.

Brand New Day opened with $360 million domestically, the biggest domestic debut in box office history, and $932 million globally, the second largest global opening ever behind only Endgame. The film needed just four days to pass $400 million in North America, another record for the fastest film to reach that figure.

Only seven films in history have crossed $2 billion worldwide, a list that includes Avatar, Avengers Endgame and Titanic. Sony’s film is now being tracked as a serious contender to join that group, with its second weekend holding up as one of the strongest second weekend performances of any major release this year, according to Rotten Tomatoes’ box office coverage.

The film’s run has coincided with a relatively quiet stretch for major studio competition, giving Brand New Day an unusually long window to dominate theaters without a comparable blockbuster opening against it. Analysts tracking the film’s daily grosses say the pace of its climb toward $2 billion will depend heavily on how well it holds in major international markets over the coming weeks, particularly China, where release timing and reception can swing a film’s final total significantly.

Sony has not yet commented publicly on whether it expects the film to reach the $2 billion mark, though the studio’s marketing has leaned into the film’s record setting opening numbers since its August 2 debut.
