Apple has launched the AirPods 5 with active noise cancellation, a redesigned control system and live translation support. The new earbuds are scheduled to become available on September 18, with two versions that differ mainly in charging features and battery claims.

Apple says active noise cancellation is now included with AirPods 5 rather than being reserved for a higher-priced model. The company claims the new system provides up to 1.5 times more noise reduction than AirPods 4 with ANC.

The earbuds also support Adaptive Audio and Transparency mode. Adaptive Audio adjusts the balance between outside sound and noise reduction, while Transparency mode keeps surrounding sounds audible. Personalized Spatial Audio is included for compatible music, shows and calls.

The charging case now offers a way to change volume by swiping on the stem. Apple’s product information also lists a wireless-charging case variant. That version adds a larger battery claim and gives buyers a choice between a simpler case and more charging flexibility.

Apple lists up to four hours of listening with ANC on the standard model. The wireless-charging case version is listed for up to five hours with ANC. With the case included, the totals are up to 20 hours and 22 hours respectively.

Live Translation is another headline feature, but Apple places limits around it. The company says the feature requires a compatible Apple device and the latest software. It is marked as a beta service with language and regional restrictions.

Android Headlines reported that Apple is presenting the AirPods 5 as a broader update to the line rather than a small case refresh. The report also noted the new stem controls and real-time translation as key differences buyers will notice.

The AirPods 5 are part of Apple’s September hardware release. Buyers should check the case type before ordering because wireless charging, battery claims and controls vary by version. Apple has not said that every translation language will be available at launch.
