Olivia Rodrigo‘s third studio album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” released on June 12, is tracking toward a first-week sales total of around 440,000 equivalent album units — which would make it the biggest debut of her career and one of the largest for any album released in 2026.
Projections from industry tracking services put the album between 420,000 and 440,000 units for its opening week, significantly ahead of both her debut “SOUR” (295,000 in 2021) and “GUTS” (302,000 in 2023). If the projection holds, Rodrigo would become the first artist to hold the three largest first-week sales figures among acts who debuted this decade.
The album drew 81.59 million Spotify streams on its first day alone, making it the most-streamed album by a female artist in a single day in 2026. It debuted at number one in 79 countries on Apple Music and set records on Amazon Music, giving it the kind of cross-platform saturation that typically precedes a very strong physical and download sales tally as well.
The record is split into two thematic halves: “Girl So in Love” and “You Seem Pretty Sad.” Lead single “Drop Dead,” released in April, was followed by “The Cure” in May and a third track, “Stupid Song,” which arrived with the full album. The critical response has been strong. Reviewers described the album as a step forward from “GUTS,” with more varied production and a broader emotional range. It held a high score on aggregate review sites within days of release.
The commercial momentum puts Rodrigo in a small group of artists who can open massive albums without needing a simultaneous tour to drive sales. Her previous two albums both benefited from highly publicized touring, but this release has relied primarily on the music and its social media reach.
