Ayaneo’s Windows Gaming “Handheld” Pushes Size, Power, and Price Limits

By Yousuf ParvezFebruary 10, 20264 Mins Read

Ayaneo’s Windows gaming “handheld” has entered a category of its own in early 2026. The newly detailed Ayaneo Next II stretches the idea of a portable device by crossing size, weight, and price thresholds rarely seen in this segment.

Revealed ahead of its planned summer shipments, the device has drawn attention less for subtle refinements and more for its sheer physical presence and desktop-class ambitions.

A handheld that barely fits the definition

The Ayaneo Next II weighs about 3.14 pounds and spans more than 13 inches across. In the context of handheld gaming PCs, that makes it an outlier by any reasonable standard.

Earlier Windows handhelds were already criticized for bulk, yet this model pushes far beyond them. It is wider and taller than many laptops once considered ultraportable.

Ayaneo has not tried to disguise that reality. The design embraces full-sized grips, large triggers, and controls that look closer to a controller docked to a screen than a compact console.

The front is dominated by a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 2400 by 1504 resolution. High refresh rates and extreme brightness figures place the panel well above what most portable gaming devices currently offer.

This screen alone explains part of the size increase. It is closer to a small tablet than a traditional handheld display.

Ayaneo’s Windows gaming “handheld” goes all-in on performance

Internally, the Ayaneo Next II targets performance levels that blur the line between portable and stationary hardware. The top configuration uses a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor with 16 Zen 5 CPU cores.

Graphics duties are handled by a Radeon 8060S GPU featuring 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units. On paper, that places the system in the same discussion as midrange gaming laptops.

Ayaneo is not alone in adopting this chipset, but the Next II pairs it with aggressive thermal hardware. Dual vapor chambers and high-speed centrifugal fans are built into the chassis.

Powering all of this is a 116 watt-hour battery. That figure is notable not only for handhelds but also for many laptops.

The battery capacity exceeds common airline limits for carry-on electronics. Owners traveling with the device will need to account for additional documentation or restrictions.

Memory and storage options scale just as aggressively. The highest-end model includes up to 128 GB of RAM and 2 TB of internal storage, specifications that would not look out of place in a professional workstation.

Pricing that signals a niche audience

The entry configuration of the Ayaneo Next II starts just under two thousand dollars, using a slightly lower-tier processor with reduced memory and storage. Even at that level, it sits far above mass-market handhelds.

At the top end, pricing climbs beyond four thousand dollars. That figure places the device alongside premium gaming laptops and compact desktops.

Ayaneo appears comfortable with that comparison. The Next II is not positioned as a mainstream alternative to smaller handhelds.

Instead, it targets buyers who prioritize maximum portable performance over comfort, weight, or affordability. For these users, the device functions as a personal gaming rig that happens to include built-in controls.

Reactions have reflected that divide. Some see it as an impressive technical exercise. Others question whether it still qualifies as something meant to be held for extended play sessions.

Ayaneo’s Windows gaming “handheld” stands as a statement product rather than a mass-market device. With its size, specifications, and price, the Next II redefines how far the handheld PC concept can be pushed before it becomes something else entirely.

FYI (keeping you in the loop)-

Is the Ayaneo Next II really a handheld device?

It includes built-in controls and a single integrated screen. However, its size and weight make long handheld use impractical for many users.

How powerful is Ayaneo’s Windows gaming “handheld” compared to laptops?

The top configuration targets performance similar to midrange gaming laptops. It is designed to handle modern PC games at high settings.

Why is the Ayaneo Next II so expensive?

The price reflects high-end components, a large OLED display, and extreme memory and battery specifications. It is aimed at a narrow enthusiast audience.
