BMW 7 Series Shows Design Shift and Expands In-Car Technology

By Tarek HasanApril 28, 20262 Mins Read

The latest iteration of the BMW 7 Series arrives with a noticeable change in direction, both in how it looks and how it engages its occupants. The update reflects a deliberate move toward a more assertive exterior and a cabin built around immersive technology.

At first glance, the redesign is difficult to miss. The front adopts what BMW describes as its “Neue Klasse” design language, bringing a more futuristic appearance. The grille stands taller and more prominent, while the daytime running lights are reduced to ultra-thin strips, giving the front end a sharper edge. Around the back, the lines are more defined than before, and the lighting now stretches across the width of the vehicle, reinforcing a sense of visual continuity.

Customization appears to be a central part of the new offering. BMW is providing more than 500 exterior color combinations, alongside a “Dual-Finish” option that blends matte surfaces with hand-applied metallic elements. The approach leans heavily into personalisation, with an emphasis on exclusivity rather than uniformity.

The entry experience has also been reworked. The car projects what is described as a “carpet of light” onto the ground, created by more than 194,000 LEDs. At the same time, the doors can open automatically, a feature intended to mimic the convenience of a chauffeur or valet setting.

Inside, attention shifts to passenger comfort and entertainment, particularly in the rear. The seats recline fully in a style similar to aircraft seating and come equipped with heating, cooling, and massage functions. Above, the panoramic “Sky Lounge” roof integrates more than 40 LED light elements, adding to the ambient setting.

A large 31.3-inch display descends from the ceiling for rear passengers, offering 8K resolution. It is paired with a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, designed to create a cinema-like environment within the cabin.

Front occupants are not left out of the technological focus. A 14.6-inch display sits within reach, while the driver interacts with a panoramic iDrive display that extends across the windshield, presenting key information such as speed and navigation directly in view.

Voice control is handled through BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant, now integrated with Amazon Alexa Plus technology, allowing for more natural interaction with vehicle functions.

Taken together, the changes suggest BMW is placing equal weight on design presence and digital experience, shaping the 7 Series into a vehicle that prioritises both visual impact and passenger immersion.
