BMW announced updates to its iX electric SUV lineup for the 2026 model year, refreshing the exterior design and bringing cutting-edge technology to its flagship luxury model. The redesign targets buyers seeking a premium electric experience with extended range.

Three variants ship for 2026: the xDrive45, the new xDrive60, and the M70 performance version. The xDrive45 arrives as a new entry point with dual electric motors providing all-wheel drive and reduced entry price compared to existing models.
The updated iX also debuts the iX3 based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, featuring an 800-volt architecture and cylindrical cell batteries. BMW targets approximately 400 miles of EPA-equivalent range with DC fast-charging speeds reaching 400 kW on compatible networks.
The iX5 Electric, manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina, targets Q4 2026 availability at around $75,000. BMW positioned these three models as answering demand from luxury buyers transitioning away from combustion engines.
The redesign emphasizes interior connectivity and AI assistant features. Wireless charging and biometric authentication come standard. Industry observers noted BMW’s push moves the brand closer to positioning pure-electric performance on par with internal combustion alternatives.
