Chinese carmaker BYD is preparing to introduce its largest Song-series crossover in the domestic market at a noticeably lower entry price than earlier estimates, according to local media reporting ahead of the vehicleâs arrival.

Industry expectations had placed the Song Ultra EV between 220,000 and 260,000 yuan. That range has now shifted downward. Automotive outlet Autohome reports the model could begin at roughly 180,000 yuan, equivalent to about 26,050 US dollars.
The adjustment appears to align with the companyâs stated sales ambition. A senior manager overseeing the Dynasty lineup recently indicated the model is targeting monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000 units, suggesting a focus on volume rather than premium positioning.
The new crossover sits at the top of the Song family by size. It measures 4,850 mm in length with a 2,840 mm wheelbase and carries a curb weight just over two tonnes depending on configuration. Despite the footprint, the cabin keeps two seating rows due to its sloping roofline.
Exterior detailing follows current electric-vehicle design language. Sculpted wheel arches, flush door handles and a slanted bonnet shape are combined with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. The vehicle is also equipped with the companyâs DiPilot 300 assisted-driving system, marketed internally as âGodâs Eyeâ B.
Power comes from a single electric motor offered in two outputs. The base variant produces 240 kW, while a higher-spec version reaches 270 kW, equal to 362 horsepower. Maximum speed is listed at 210 km/h.
Battery options use lithium iron phosphate packs supplied by FinDreams, the manufacturerâs battery subsidiary. Buyers can choose between 75.6 kWh and 82.7 kWh capacities, delivering claimed CLTC driving ranges of 620 km and 710 km respectively.
The Song badge began as a single model before expanding into several crossovers, including plug-in hybrid and fully electric derivatives. The Ultra EV now becomes the largest member of that line as the brand continues reorganising its domestic portfolio.

For now, the reported pricing remains unofficial until the company confirms details at launch. Still, the lower figure points to a more aggressive entry into a competitive segment where range and cost remain decisive factors for buyers in Chinaâs rapidly growing electric-vehicle market.
