Enola Holmes 3 landed on Netflix July 1 with Millie Bobby Brown returning as Sherlock’s brilliant younger sister. The film sets her wedding day on Malta as its backdrop, though her plans derail when Sherlock vanishes and duty calls.
The third installment leans into what made the previous two work: a protagonist who outthinks everyone in the room, a mystery worth unraveling, and enough chemistry between its ensemble to carry the weight of plot contrivances.
The Malta Mystery
Enola arrives in Malta for her wedding to Lord Tewkesbury, anticipating the happiest day of her life. Instead, she learns her brother Sherlock has been kidnapped. Rather than delay the ceremony, she pursues both paths at once—a structural choice that grounds the film in character rather than sprawl.
Louis Partridge returns as Tewkesbury. Himesh Patel, Henry Cavill, and Helena Bonham Carter round out the cast alongside new faces drawn into the mystery.
The Numbers and Reception
Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it a 69%, a dip from the previous films’ 85% and 80% respectively. Audiences, though, have already embraced it. The film carries a 90% audience score. Netflix keeps viewership data private, but early streaming performance suggests it ranks among the platform’s stronger theatrical releases this year.
The film’s real win is knowing its audience wants character work first, plot logic second.
