Enola Holmes 3 landed on Netflix worldwide on July 1, with Millie Bobby Brown back as the teenage detective for a third case. The film premiered globally at 3 a.m. ET, marking the franchise’s return after previous installments in 2020 and 2022.

This time Enola is getting ready for her own wedding to Lord Tewkesbury, played by Louis Partridge. Those plans get interrupted fast when her famous brother Sherlock, played by Henry Cavill, is kidnapped, pulling her into a new mystery that stretches from London to the island nation of Malta.
A new director takes the reins
Philip Barantini directs this installment, taking over from Harry Bradbeer, who helmed the first two films. It’s the first time the series has changed hands behind the camera. Early previews describe the tone as darker and more mature than the earlier entries.
Jack Thorne wrote the screenplay, adapting once again from Nancy Springer’s The Enola Holmes Mysteries book series. Helena Bonham Carter returns as Enola’s mother, alongside Himesh Patel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster in supporting roles.
Where the story goes this time
The kidnapping plot forces Enola to juggle two things she has never had to hold together before: solving a case and planning her own future. That tension between duty and personal life sits at the center of the film, according to Netflix’s own description of the plot.
Malta gives the series a new backdrop after two films largely set in London, widening the world Springer’s books first built on the page.
Why the franchise still draws a crowd
The first two Enola Holmes films became some of Netflix’s most watched original movies after their release, helped along by Brown’s star power following Stranger Things. A third entry, five years after the original, is a bet that the audience has stuck around.
Cavill’s Sherlock has always played a smaller, more mysterious role than the detective’s usual leading-man treatment. His kidnapping this time puts him at the center of the plot rather than the sidelines.
Enola Holmes 3 is streaming now, the first of the franchise’s stories to leave London behind for good.
