Kingfish Game Revealed as Firevolt Unveils Co-Op Roguelite City Builder for 2027

Developer and publisher Firevolt has announced *Kingfish*, a new cooperative roguelite city-building game planned for release on PC through Steam in 2027.

The project centers on a two-player asymmetric structure, placing one player in the role of a King and the other as the massive ocean creature carrying the kingdom itself across an open sea filled with threats, resources, and rival monsters.

According to details released alongside the reveal trailer, the game divides responsibilities between the two players in ways that affect both combat and city management. The player controlling the King operates directly on the creature’s back, gathering resources, defending villagers, and engaging enemies in real-time battles. The Fish player, meanwhile, oversees the wider kingdom from above, handling city layout, production management, and battlefield support.

Firevolt described the setting as a world almost entirely covered by ocean, where survival depends on coordination between both roles. The floating settlement expands across the back of an ancient leviathan while players travel between locations searching for materials and confronting hostile creatures.

The King’s role appears focused on the daily function of the settlement itself. Villagers each carry individual preferences and needs, and morale management is tied to maintaining a capable fighting force when attacks arrive. Immediate threats can emerge while exploring or during nighttime encounters, requiring direct combat responses from the player on the ground.

The Fish role shifts attention toward larger strategic concerns. From a higher perspective, players organize workers, manage resource production, monitor nearby dangers in the water, and assist in battles through spellcasting abilities. Communication between both players is positioned as a central mechanic, particularly when tracking enemy movement or deciding how to expand the city safely.

Firevolt also confirmed roguelite progression systems tied to repeated runs. Each session introduces new settlements, buildings, characters, and artifacts, while some villagers persist between runs and provide special bonuses to both the King and Fish players.

The reveal materials emphasized cooperation over competition, with both roles dependent on one another to maintain the survival of the civilization traveling across the sea. Visually, the game combines large-scale ocean exploration with compact city management built directly atop the moving creature.
