Minisforum AI X1 Pro Mini PC Review: Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 Power

By Ebrahim HossenMarch 8, 20263 Mins Read

The Minisforum AI X1 Pro has arrived with a new processor upgrade, bringing AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 into the compact mini PC segment. The system continues the company’s push toward high-performance desktop computing in a small form factor.

The updated model keeps the same compact chassis but replaces the earlier processor with a newer Strix Point-based chip. The change introduces stronger CPU performance, improved integrated graphics, and a built-in neural processing unit designed for AI workloads.

Compact workstation design with upgraded processor

The Minisforum AI X1 Pro remains a compact metal mini PC designed for users who want powerful desktop performance without a large tower. The new Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 processor brings higher clock speeds and improved efficiency compared with the previous Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 used in earlier versions.

The processor is part of AMD’s Strix Point platform. It combines a multi-core CPU, Radeon 890M integrated graphics based on RDNA3+ architecture, and an integrated NPU for AI acceleration. This combination allows the system to handle productivity workloads, content creation, and lighter gaming tasks without requiring a dedicated graphics card.

Despite its small size, the AI X1 Pro includes a broad set of connectivity options. A key feature is the OCuLink port, which allows users to connect an external desktop GPU. When paired with a powerful external graphics card, the mini PC can handle heavier 3D workloads or demanding gaming applications.

The device also integrates its own internal power supply unit. This removes the need for a large external power brick and helps keep workspaces cleaner. The metal chassis and active cooling system are designed to maintain stable performance under sustained workloads.

Performance focus with AI acceleration and Radeon graphics

The addition of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 gives the Minisforum AI X1 Pro stronger processing capability than its predecessor. The integrated Radeon 890M graphics chip enables smooth performance for many everyday GPU tasks, including video editing, design applications, and light gaming.

The NPU included in the processor supports AI-accelerated workloads. This can improve performance in software that uses machine learning features, such as image processing, AI-assisted productivity tools, or emerging local AI applications.

Memory configuration also plays a significant role in overall system performance. Because the integrated graphics rely on system memory, faster RAM and higher capacity configurations can noticeably affect graphics performance and multitasking ability.

Cooling and energy efficiency remain important factors in compact systems like this. The mini PC relies on an internal cooling system designed to keep temperatures under control during sustained workloads while maintaining reasonable noise levels.

The Minisforum AI X1 Pro demonstrates how compact desktop systems are evolving toward powerful AI-capable workstations. With the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 processor, integrated Radeon graphics, and external GPU support, the mini PC positions itself as a flexible option for professionals and advanced home users who want strong performance without a full-size desktop.

FYI (keeping you in the loop)-

What processor does the Minisforum AI X1 Pro use?

The updated Minisforum AI X1 Pro uses the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 processor. This chip belongs to AMD’s Strix Point platform and includes CPU, GPU, and AI acceleration hardware.

Does the Minisforum AI X1 Pro support external graphics cards?

Yes. The system includes an OCuLink port that allows users to connect an external GPU. This expands the mini PC’s performance for demanding graphics tasks and gaming.

Is the Minisforum AI X1 Pro suitable for gaming?

The integrated Radeon 890M graphics can handle light to moderate gaming. For more demanding titles, users can connect an external GPU through the OCuLink interface.
