Bangladesh’s second ODI against Sri Lanka in Rajshahi carried a brief disciplinary note alongside the cricket, with two players sanctioned for on-field conduct during Wednesday’s match.

Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana were each fined 10 per cent of their match fees after being found in breach of Level 1 provisions under the ICC Code of Conduct. Both incidents were treated separately, but the outcome was similar. Each player also received a single demerit point, recorded as their first offence within a 24-month period.
Nahida’s breach followed an exchange after she dismissed Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu in the 17th over. The left-arm spinner gave what match officials described as an animated send-off, an action that falls under conduct deemed excessive or inappropriate in celebration.
Sarmin’s case came earlier in the innings. Batting during Bangladesh’s chase, she was adjudged leg before wicket in the 16th over. Her reaction — which included delaying her departure and gesturing towards her bat in visible disagreement — was ruled as dissent against the umpire’s decision.
The charges were brought by the on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Rokeya Sultana, with third umpire Dolly Rani Sarkar and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir Jesy also involved in the reporting process.
Both players admitted the offences when approached, and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das. That acceptance meant there was no need for formal disciplinary hearings, and the matter was resolved on the day.
Level 1 breaches typically attract minor penalties, often used by the ICC to address conduct that crosses expected professional boundaries without escalating into more serious violations. The addition of demerit points serves as a longer-term record, with repeated offences within a set period carrying the risk of further sanctions.
For Bangladesh, the developments remain contained to disciplinary records rather than affecting team selection or match outcomes. Still, they serve as a reminder of the scrutiny players operate under, particularly in international fixtures where standards of conduct are closely monitored.

The match itself continues to stand on its cricketing merits, though these moments briefly shifted attention to behaviour rather than performance, an area teams generally seek to keep out of focus.
