Nothing OS 5.0 adds a group of home-screen controls that change how the phone looks and how users organize it. Nothing’s official software page lists new app icons, wallpaper-aware system colors, transparent widgets and batch editing for moving several apps or widgets together.

The update also introduces a new Geist typeface and refreshed icons across Settings, Camera, Gallery and the status bar. Android Central reported on August 26 that the redesign reaches beyond the home screen, with new lock-screen clock faces and updated photo sorting and filtering in the Gallery.

Nothing calls the two new clock faces Gooey and Micrographics. The official page describes Gooey as playful and Micrographics as a hardware-inspired design with added information. Nothing also lists additional color options for the clock faces.

Not every visual feature is ready in the open beta. Nothing says the refreshed home screen and Micrographics clock face remain in development and will arrive with the general release beginning in October. That timing separates the preview experience from the software package most owners will eventually receive.

The personalization tools sit beside practical controls. The Glyph Timer can start a countdown from the home screen, while a separate Glyph app puts the interface settings in one place. Away Time records how long a user stays away from the phone and summarizes the breaks across a week.

Nothing’s page also lists Android 17 features, including separate Notification and Quick Settings panels, a Quick Share option that can use a QR code with an iPhone, and updated privacy indicators. Those are platform features; they should not be confused with Nothing’s own home-screen design work.

The exact search phrase “Nothing OS” covers a wider software package than one visual theme. The clearer story is the split between features available in the open beta and features held for general release. Users considering the preview should back up their phones and remember that Nothing describes the build as pre-release software that may affect stability or battery life.
