OnePlus has publicly acknowledged that it is exploring the idea of a handheld gaming console, offering the first official signal that the company may be looking beyond smartphones into dedicated gaming hardware.

OnePlus Handheld Gaming Console

The confirmation came from Li Jie, a company executive, during a recent livestream. At one point, Li briefly held up a hand-drawn sketch that appeared to outline a portable gaming device. The drawing was rough and lacked detail, but the shape and layout suggested a handheld console form factor rather than a phone accessory or controller.

The moment was fleeting, yet it aligns with earlier claims from known tipster Digital Chat Station, who had shared renders of what was described as a OnePlus gaming device. Those images depicted a slightly boxy unit with shoulder buttons, a rear camera module, and colored grips on either side, hinting at a hybrid approach between traditional consoles and mobile hardware design.

So far, the company has not confirmed any specifications or development timeline. However, previously circulated information suggests the device could feature an 8-inch display and be powered by a flagship MediaTek chipset. None of these details have been formally verified by OnePlus.

What stands out in the early description is the reported focus on touchscreen-based interaction. Instead of relying primarily on physical controls, the device may prioritize multi-finger input and responsiveness, alongside a high refresh rate display. This direction, if accurate, would place it closer to a gaming-optimized tablet experience than a conventional handheld console.

There are also mentions of system-level optimizations aimed at popular mobile titles such as Delta Force and PUBG Mobile. The device is expected to include a larger battery and possibly active cooling, suggesting an emphasis on sustained gaming performance.

Alongside the console tease, Li introduced the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra during the same stream. That device, powered by a Dimensity 9500 chip and featuring a 165Hz display, appears to be further along in development and closer to release.

For now, the handheld console remains an experiment rather than a confirmed product. Still, the fact that OnePlus chose to show even a rough concept in a public setting marks a shift from speculation to early-stage acknowledgment, offering a glimpse into how the company may be testing new directions in gaming hardware.

As it stands, there is little clarity on whether the project will move beyond the conceptual phase. But the conversation, once driven largely by leaks, is now being shaped, however cautiously, by the company itself.
