Poco has quietly expanded its M-series lineup with the launch of the Poco M8s 5G, a device that leans heavily on battery life and screen size to make its case in the lower-cost segment. The handset is now available in global markets, with pricing starting at $189 for the base configuration.

At a time when incremental upgrades dominate much of the smartphone cycle, Pocoâs latest offering appears to focus on endurance and scale. The M8s 5G carries a 7,000mAh battery, a capacity that stands out even in a market accustomed to larger cells. The company has paired it with 33W wired charging, along with 18W wired reverse charging, allowing the device to double as a power source for other electronics.
The display follows a similar approach. The phone features a 6.9-inch LCD panel with Full-HD+ resolution and a refresh rate that can reach 144Hz. It is a combination more commonly associated with higher-priced models, though Poco has opted for an LCD rather than OLED, a trade-off that reflects its positioning.
Performance is handled by Qualcommâs Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset. The device can be configured with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. For users needing more space, Poco has included a microSD card slot, an option that is becoming less common in newer releases.
Camera hardware remains modest. The front houses an 8MP sensor within a hole-punch cutout, while the rear setup includes a 50MP main camera accompanied by a secondary lens. Video recording is capped at 1080p at 30 frames per second, reflecting a focus on basic functionality rather than advanced imaging.
Beyond the core specifications, the phone includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and supports dual SIM connectivity. Standard wireless features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 are present, alongside NFC, GPS, and an infrared blaster. The device also carries an IP64 rating, offering limited protection against dust and water, and supports Dolby Atmos audio.
The Poco M8s 5G runs on Android 15 with HyperOS 2 out of the box. It is available in two colour options, White and Black. Pricing reaches $229 for the higher-end variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

In a segment where affordability often dictates compromise, Pocoâs latest release appears to prioritise battery capacity and display size over more headline-grabbing features. Whether that balance resonates with buyers will depend largely on how much weight users place on longevity between charges over other aspects of daily use.
