Redmi 17 5G Launches in China With 6,300mAh Battery

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 5G in China, giving the budget Redmi line a large display, a high-capacity battery and 5G connectivity. The Redmi 17 5G is now available in China, while Xiaomi has not yet announced a confirmed global release schedule.

The phone has a 6.9-inch HD+ LCD panel with a 1,600-by-720-pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and touch sampling of up to 240Hz. Gizmochina reported that the display also supports DC dimming, reaches up to 800 nits of global brightness and carries TÜV Rheinland eye-protection certification.

Five Days Smartlife and Gizmochina both reported that the handset uses the six-nanometre Unisoc T8300 processor. It is offered with 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A dedicated microSD slot allows owners to expand storage without giving up the phone’s SIM configuration.

The battery is one of the Redmi 17 5G’s main selling points. The phone packs a 6,300mAh battery and supports 15W wired charging, 7.5W wired reverse charging, Power Delivery and Quick Charge protocols. Xiaomi says the battery is designed to retain its health for up to four years, although real-world endurance will depend on network use, brightness and software settings.

The device includes a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. Other listed features include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, USB Type-C, a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone weighs 210 grams and measures 171.56 by 79.47 by 8.15 millimetres.

In China, the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage version costs 999 yuan, while the 6GB and 128GB version costs 1,199 yuan. The available finishes are Cold Mist Blue, Star Rock Black and Feather Mist White. Those prices are local Chinese retail prices and should not be treated as confirmed prices for India, Bangladesh or other markets.

Reports about a future international edition have circulated, but the company has not confirmed whether the global model will use exactly the same specifications or launch under the same price structure. For now, the confirmed Redmi 17 5G story is a China launch focused on battery capacity, a large 120Hz screen and an entry-level price.
