Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 17 5G in India on August 6, bringing a large 8,000mAh battery and a 6.99-inch AMOLED display to the company’s mid-range lineup at a starting price of 27,999 rupees.
The phone will go on sale from August 12 through Amazon.in, Mi.com, Xiaomi retail stores and authorized offline partners across the country, according to 91mobiles and GSMArena. Buyers can choose between a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant priced at 27,999 rupees, or an 8GB RAM version with the same storage at 30,999 rupees.
The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and reaches up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness, with Gorilla Glass 7i protection on top. Xiaomi has also added what it calls HydroTouch 2.0, a feature meant to keep the touchscreen responsive even when a user’s fingers are wet.
Inside, the phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, which posts AnTuTu benchmark scores above 630,000, enough for everyday multitasking, streaming and light gaming rather than heavy graphics work. Storage comes in the form of 128GB of UFS 2.2 memory with LPDDR4X RAM, and the phone supports expandable storage through a microSD card slot.
Camera hardware includes a 50-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel front camera, both capped at 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second rather than 4K. The bigger draw for many buyers will be the 8,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which Xiaomi says can stretch to roughly three days of moderate use on a single charge. The phone supports 45W wired fast charging and can also reverse-charge other devices at 22.5W.
Software runs on HyperOS 3, built on top of Android 16, and Xiaomi has committed to four generations of OS upgrades for the device. The launch places the Redmi Note 17 5G squarely against rivals like the iQOO Z11, which is also set to arrive in India later this month, in a mid-range segment where battery life and display quality have become the main battlegrounds for Indian buyers.
