Leaked specifications for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 point to a significant design change: the phone is getting wider. A new form factor called the Z Fold 8 Wide has appeared in leaked documents with an open width of 161.4mm, making it wider than it is tall when unfolded. That is an unusual proportion for a book-style foldable, and it suggests Samsung is experimenting with what a large-screen foldable can actually look like on a desk.
Both the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide are reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The standard Z Fold 8 also comes with design refinements — a thinner profile and upgraded display specs over the Fold 7. Samsung has focused on thinning down the folded thickness in each generation, and the Fold 8 is expected to continue that progress.
The launch event is confirmed for July 22, 2026, in London. Samsung’s Unpacked events in Europe have become a pattern for the company’s foldable announcements, and this one follows the same approach. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Watch 9 are also expected to be revealed at the same event.
The Z Fold 8 Wide is the more unusual of the two. The wider-than-tall proportion when open gives it a landscape-native viewing angle that could appeal to video-heavy users who currently hold a tablet sideways. Whether it fits comfortably in a pocket folded is the question that leaks haven’t answered yet.
Samsung will release full specifications closer to the July 22 event. Pre-order details and regional pricing are expected to follow the Unpacked announcement.
